Senior Accounting Manager

Melo LLP is currently seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Manager to join our accounting firm. This is a key leadership role within our Wyoming, Ontario office. This position involves overseeing various aspects of the firm’s operations, including client management, team supervision, strategic planning, and business development. The Senior Manager is responsible for maintaining the firm’s high standards of service, managing client relationships, and driving growth and profitability.

We are a mid-market accounting firm with locations in Forest, Leamington, Sarnia, Strathroy, Windsor and Wyoming. We provide audit, accounting, tax and a wide range of business advisory services. We serve clients ranging in size from small owner-managed enterprises to large, privately held organizations in various industries including the agribusiness, real estate, manufacturing and professional services sectors.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, acting as their primary point of contact.
  • Provide exceptional client service and address any concerns or issues promptly and professionally.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their business needs and identify opportunities for expanding services.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of professionals, including accountants, auditors, and other support staff.
  • Set performance objectives, provide feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Foster a positive work environment, encourage professional development, and promote teamwork and collaboration.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the firm’s strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and improvement in service offerings, market positioning, and operational efficiency.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in accounting and financial services.
  • Lead business development efforts to expand the firm’s client base and revenue streams.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking, referrals, and targeted marketing initiatives.
  • Prepare proposals, conduct presentations, and negotiate contracts with potential clients.
  • Monitor and manage the financial performance of the firm, including revenue, expenses, and profitability.
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities, ensuring financial targets are met or exceeded.
  • Implement cost-saving measures and efficiency enhancements where appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and ethical guidelines.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of tax laws, audit procedures, and financial reporting frameworks.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to mitigate risks and safeguard client information.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (a CPA designation is highly desirable).
  • 8+ years of experience in public accounting, including significant experience with audit, tax, or advisory services.
  • Proven track record in managing client relationships and delivering exceptional client service.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to think analytically and provide valuable insights to clients and the firm.
  • Business development and sales experience, including a demonstrated ability to generate new business opportunities.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and other relevant tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, Caseware).
