General Manager

Melo LLP is currently searching for a General Manager for one of our agribusiness clients located in the Middlesex County, ON area. The ideal person for this position would be detail oriented, a keen problem solver who is focused on efficiency and who takes a hands-on approach to management. The General Manager will provide operational oversight for three sectors of the business. In this role, you will be accountable for operational effectiveness, quality standards, safety, and the marketing/growing of the cash crops. As GM you would be working directly with the owners and managing the farm business activities on a daily basis.

We are a mid-market accounting firm with locations in Forest, Leamington, Sarnia, Strathroy, Windsor and Wyoming. We provide audit, accounting, tax and a wide range of business advisory services. We serve clients ranging in size from small owner-managed enterprises to large, privately held organizations in various industries including the agribusiness, real estate, manufacturing and professional services sectors.

  • Marketing of cash crops
  • Maintaining HAACP records, and farm data spreadsheets
  • Work with government grant programs
  • Agronomy – regular soil testing, making fertilizer, seed, and crop protections decisions
  • Maintaining all crop records
  • Attending agribusiness workshops
  • Ability to do business projections, and Pro-forma – liaison for the accountant office, lawyers, and bank
  • Coordinate with bookkeeper to manage weekly and monthly accounting entries
  • Ability to purchase capital assets (machinery, equipment, land)
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities to work with farm staff and customers
  • Natural relationship builder- working directly with customers and building the business
  • Strong planning and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong leadership insight

  • 10-15 years’ sales experience
  • Post Secondary degree or diploma in Agricultural Business
  • Strong math and Microsoft Suite skills
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Extensive experience in a farming-related field
  • Management experience with a passion for agriculture
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work overtime as required
